Cocktail Salts for Margaritas, Beer & Creative Drink Rims
A good cocktail salt does more than add saltiness. The right blend can bring citrus, chile heat, smoke, or a combination of all three to margaritas, micheladas, beer, Bloody Marys, and other cocktails.
DDR BBQ Supply’s current collection includes seven Texas Salt Co. products: six flavored cocktail and beer salts plus the Cocktail Wood Cellar, a wooden storage container with a built-in glass rimmer.
Choose Your Cocktail Salt by Flavor
The current lineup gives you several distinctly different rim styles:
- Chile Lime Cocktail Beer Salt: Sea salt, chile pepper, and lime create bright citrus flavor with mild chile warmth. It works especially well with margaritas, beer, micheladas, and tequila cocktails.
- Jalapeño Lime Cocktail Salt: Combines sea salt, ground jalapeño, and lime for zesty citrus with a gentle pepper kick.
- Lemon Lime Cocktail Beer Salt: A chile-free citrus option made with sea salt, lemon powder, and lime powder for a clean, bright rim.
- Tequila Barrel Smoked Lime Salt: Blends lime with sea salt smoked over tequila barrels for a deeper smoky-citrus profile.
- Texas Beer Salt: A simple combination of sea salt and lime powder made for lagers, micheladas, margaritas, and other citrus-forward drinks.
- Triple Heat Cocktail Salt: Combines jalapeño, habanero, and ghost pepper with sea salt for the hottest rim in the current collection.
Margarita & Tequila Cocktail Salts
For a classic margarita, Lemon Lime or Texas Beer Salt provides bright citrus without additional pepper heat.
Choose Chile Lime or Jalapeño Lime when you want citrus plus gentle chile warmth. For a margarita with more smoke, Tequila Barrel Smoked Lime brings an extra layer of aroma from tequila-barrel-smoked salt.
If heat is the goal, Triple Heat is the standout choice. Its combination of jalapeño, habanero, and ghost pepper creates a much stronger pepper profile than the milder citrus salts. Start with a light rim if you have not tried it before.
Beer Salt for Micheladas & Cold Beer
Texas Beer Salt is designed around a straightforward combination of sea salt and lime. Sprinkle a small amount around the rim of a beer glass or use it with a michelada when you want crisp citrus and salinity without additional chile heat.
Chile Lime and Jalapeño Lime are better choices when you want some pepper character with the citrus, while Triple Heat works for drinkers who actively want a spicy beer or michelada rim.
More Than Just Cocktail Rims
Many of these salts can also double as finishing seasonings.
Try them lightly on:
- Mango, pineapple, or watermelon
- Grilled shrimp and seafood
- Fish tacos
- Street corn
- Popcorn
- Roasted nuts
- Grilled or roasted vegetables
- Snack mixes
Chile, lime, and smoked salt profiles can work particularly well when the food already shares Southwestern, Tex-Mex, seafood, or grilled flavors.

How to Rim a Cocktail Glass
Rimming a glass is simple:
- Pour a small amount of cocktail salt onto a shallow plate or salt rimmer.
- Run a lime or lemon wedge around the outer edge of the glass.
- Dip or gently roll the damp rim in the salt.
- Shake off excess before adding the drink.
A partial rim is another good option when guests want to choose how much salt or heat they get with each sip.
The Texas Salt Co. Cocktail Wood Cellar makes the process tidier by combining salt storage with a built-in rimming area. Its interior measures 4.72 inches across and uses a magnetic lid to keep the contents covered between uses.
Choose Lemon Lime or Texas Beer Salt for straightforward citrus, Chile Lime or Jalapeño Lime for mild heat, Tequila Barrel Smoked Lime for smoke, or Triple Heat when you want a seriously spicy rim.
