What is the thickness of the grate?

The grate is fabricated from 3/16" thick A36 steel and fully framed for strength and rigidity. The finished assembled thickness is approximately 1/2 inch.

What steel do you use?

We use A36 food-grade steel for all custom grill grates and firebox grates.

Do you offer stainless steel grates?

No. We currently only offer custom grates manufactured from A36 food-grade steel.

Can this grate be used as a replacement grate?

Yes. As long as your grill, smoker, firebox, or pit can accommodate a 26" l x 19" w grate, it can be used as a replacement. Customers commonly use our grates in offset smokers, custom-built pits, and charcoal cookers.

Can this grate be used in a firebox?

Yes. Many customers use our grates as replacement firebox grates, charcoal grates, smoker grates, and cooking grates.

Is this grate safe for direct food contact?

Yes. A36 food-grade steel is safe for cooking when properly seasoned before use.

Can it support cast iron cookware?

Absolutely. This heavy-duty grate is designed to support Dutch ovens, cast iron skillets, and large cuts of meat.

Will the grate warp easily?

Should I season the grate before use?

Yes. We recommend seasoning the grate with a high-smoke-point cooking oil before first use and periodically thereafter.

How do I prevent rust?

Keep the grate dry when not in use, apply a light coating of oil after cleaning, and re-season as needed. Light surface oxidation is normal for raw steel and can easily be removed.

How do I determine the size grate I need?

Please carefully measure your existing grate opening and provide the exact dimensions required. DDR BBQ Supply cannot determine the correct grate size for third-party grills or smokers.

How long do grates take to ship?

Because every grate is custom cut to order, please allow approximately 1–2 weeks for fabrication before shipment.
