How thick is this firebox grate?
This grate is fabricated from 3/16" thick A36 steel and framed for additional strength. The finished assembled thickness is approximately 1/2".
What type of steel is used?
All DDR BBQ Supply custom grill grates and firebox grates are fabricated from A36 food-grade steel known for its durability and high-temperature performance.
Do you offer stainless steel firebox grates?
No. We currently build all custom firebox grates from heavy-duty A36 steel.
How long does fabrication take?
Every grate is cut to order. Please allow approximately 1-2 weeks for fabrication before shipment.
Can this be used in a smoker firebox?
Yes. These grates are commonly used as replacement firebox grates in offset smokers, charcoal smokers, custom-built pits, and wood-fired cookers.
Is the grate welded for strength?
Yes. Each grate is framed and welded to provide additional rigidity and long-term durability under high-heat conditions.
Will this work in a custom-built smoker or grill?
Yes. These grates are frequently used in custom smoker builds, grill projects, fire pits, and replacement applications.
Should I season the grate before use?
We recommend applying a thin coat of high-smoke-point cooking oil and heating the grate before first use. Periodic seasoning helps reduce sticking and surface oxidation.
How do I prevent rust?
Keep the grate dry when not in use, remove excess ash after cooking, and periodically apply a light coating of oil. Light surface oxidation is normal for raw steel and can be managed through regular maintenance.
How do I know what size grate I need?
You must provide the exact grate dimensions required for your smoker or grill. DDR BBQ Supply cannot determine the correct grate size for third-party cookers. Always measure your existing grate or firebox opening before ordering.

With over 35 years of smoking experience, we started DDR BBQ Supply with a simple goal: to help others cook better barbecue. We've spent decades learning what works and what doesn't, and we apply that knowledge to every product we carry. From high-performance grills and smokers to carefully selected rubs, sauces, and tools, everything we offer is something we believe in and use ourselves. We don’t believe in cutting corners or selling gear we wouldn’t rely on during our own backyard cooks and when we compete in BBQ competitions.
