Frequently Asked Questions

Brush the grates after every cook while they are still warm, which is the quick daily habit that prevents buildup. Beyond that, do a deeper clean of the burners or firebox, grease tray, and interior every 10 to 15 cooks, or two to three times a year for a typical backyard schedule. Cooking warm makes the residue release with a fraction of the effort.
This is a real concern, since loose wire bristles can stick to grates and end up in food, which has sent people to the emergency room. That is why we stock bristle-free brushes, scrapers, and pumice blocks that clean just as well with no risk. If you do keep a wire brush, inspect it often and wipe the grates with a damp cloth before cooking.
A scraper handles the carbon and stuck-on food right on the cooking grates, while a degreasing spray dissolves the greasy film that coats the inside of the lid, the drip pan, and the body. They work on different messes, so a complete kit usually includes both: scrape the grates each cook and degrease the rest during deep cleans.
You can. Harsh oven cleaners and aggressive wire pads can strip porcelain coatings and pit stainless, and soaking cast iron will rust it. Match the tool to the surface: gentle pads and food-safe cleaners for porcelain and stainless, and a quick scrape plus re-oiling for cast iron. The right approach cleans thoroughly without shortening the life of your grates.
A clean grill sears better, holds heat more evenly, and keeps old grease from flavoring today's food or feeding flare-ups. Built-up grease is also the most common cause of grill fires. So cleaning is not just about appearances; it protects your food, your safety, and the working life of an expensive piece of equipment.

With over 35 years of smoking experience, we started DDR BBQ Supply with a simple goal: to help others cook better barbecue. We've spent decades learning what works and what doesn't, and we apply that knowledge to every product we carry. From high-performance grills and smokers to carefully selected rubs, sauces, and tools, everything we offer is something we believe in and use ourselves. We don’t believe in cutting corners or selling gear we wouldn’t rely on during our own backyard cooks and when we compete in BBQ competitions.
